Kenema x Benin City

Today a very cool band called Benin City did a photoshoot for Clash Magazine.  Here is a behind the scenes look of the band members in pieces from our forthcoming Interlude collection.

If I were you I'd check out their sound cloud: http://m.soundcloud.com/benin-city immediately.

Interlude

I exhale with excitement as we are finally shooting a new (capsule) collection next Sunday. The collection is called 'Interlude' as it is a kinda in between collection's collection which is for women and men. It clean and simple, I hope you like it. I'm proud of it and also proud to say the hiatus is over!!

Can I get a 'We tank God' in a generic West African accent please?

Here is a little snap shot of what's coming.

Peace, Love & Unity

Old photo's.

I was looking for some pictures yesterday and came across many Kenema memories so thought I'd post them. A little distraction whilst the new collection samples are being made.

EVENT - MAP - Sierra Leone: New Year, Big Business

At some point in 2011 (I think) I met Lyande Kaikai, she is a wonderfully inspiring young woman who is as passionate about Sierra Leone and pan African development as I am.  She has set up a company called My African Passport (MAP).  The company is like a one stop shop for business across Africa.  Lyande is a Salone titi (Sierra Leonean woman) so of course her first destination is SL.

The first MAP event of 2013 is on 10th January and I am guest speaking!  Come down find out about business in Sierra Leone, there is more to the country than Diamonds and Iron.  I think the beaches in Sierra Leone are just as valuable as an diamond or gold.  The artisans in Sierra Leone are skilled and ready, this is an opporunity to see what SL has to offer... or come and listen to me!

There will also be presentations from some very interesting and knowledgable people.

THERE ARE ONLY 4 TICKETS LEFT!  Book yours here.

Wishing you a Happy 2013!

These are images from my trip to Sierra Leone - although it was raining season and the rain is mad I loved it, wish I was still there.  Despite the grey it was warm and the beaches were gorge (except Lumley which was actually a hot mess and needs cleaning NOW!)

Posing for pictures is not for me unless it involves prosecco!

Images from a course I did with Denise Brown... blog post to follow... posing for pics is very CRINGE!

The First Lady organisers, Tamu Thomas and Sonia Meggie aim to continue to support deserving projects in Africa.  During this event we are collecting pre-loved books, toys, stationary, clothing etc for children aged 3 – 10 yrs to send to Heaven's Gate Nursery in Majay Town Sierra Leone. The items MUST be in GOOD condition.  Heaven’s Gate is an infant and nursery school established by a local pastor that feels passionate about educating local children. The First Lady would like to support Heaven’s Gate by sending the items listed above to Heaven’s Gate.

If you have any of the listed items we would be very grateful if you could bring them to the event so that we can ship them to Sierra Leone.  You’ll be helping the environment whislt supporting others!

The items donated will not end up on a market stall in Sierra Leone. They will be hand delivered in February to ensure the safe delivery of the items.  It will also serve as an opportunity to catch up with the two girls we have provided scholarships for at The Holy Rosary School in Kenema, Sierra Leone.

We welcome you to come together and celebrate our first year at The Rag Factory just of London’s famous Brick Lane.  Join us for some festive shopping, learn from some phenomenal women and network while being entertained.  We guarantee that you will leave feeling inspired.
